Best Star Wars NERF Blasters
The NERF and Star Wars mash up might just edge ahead of Star Wars LEGO as the best collab ever!
Many even have sound effects, making them great toys even without the darts, so you even save yourself some money on ammo by not bothering to get any for the stormtroopers. They never hit anything anyway!!
The batteries also make the darts more fun as the GlowStrike technology means the darts glow to look more like lasers bolts! The batteries even light the inside of the blaster to charge up the glow in the dark GlowStrike darts…great fun on dark winter nights!
The NERF Star Wars blasters are definitely aimed at a younger market as they fire at speeds around the 50fps mark, which is noticeably less than the N-Strike Elite ranges, but this is no bad thing.
While it is great fun being able to fire darts at 100 ft, this power is probably not so good for younger age groups. Having a less powerful gun makes it much easier to prime and fire too.
Nerf Rival Star Wars Stormtrooper Blaster

The Nerf Rival Star Wars Stormtrooper Blaster really is a cut above things like the repainted Mandalorian Apollo. Nerf has created a whole new casing for this to make it the ultimate off-the-shelf cosplay NERF blaster.
It should be noted that this is part of the Nerf Rival Range, which is aimed at 14 years and older and you can tell. The stock is large, even by Rival standards, making this quite a long blaster. It also has a very chunky grip, that people with smaller hands may not find comfortable.
Finally, this blaster fires at around 90 fps, which is down on power for a Rival blaster, but it will hit harder than any of the usual Elite dart blasters listed here.
Having said all that, this thing is mightily impressive! From the impressive packaging and custom red ammo (normal Rival ammo is yellow) to the attention to detail, this is great!
OK, the ergonomics are not as good as some blaster, it really only works for right-handers and the loading mechanism is a bit stiffer for example, but this is not aimed at hard core-NERF Warriors!
If you are into cosplay and like to be able to actually fire your props, or you simply want an incredibly cool Star Wars NERF blaster…then you may have just found what you are looking for…it might even be enough to turn you to the Dark Side!
Chewbacca Bowcaster NERF Blaster

Following the old adage, “let the Wookie win” I have put Chewbacca’s Bowcaster as my fave Star Wars Elite NERF gun simply because it looks so cool!
The blaster itself has an unusual loading mechanism as it is powered like a crossbow. So, you need to pull the cable back until it locks, then slide a dart in from the front. The cable is easy to pull back, making it good for smaller kids – my 3-year-old nephew could put the stock between his knees and use both hands to pull the cable back.
It does require some assembly, but nothing tricky and takes no more than a few minutes to get it up and running. It comes with 5 darts, so you can have one loaded and the others stored down the side in the handy ammo clip.
The scope mounted on the top is on a standard NERF tactical rail, so if you don’t like that, you can add in pretty much any of the other NERF accessories.
And a little note for parents out there – unlike many of the Star Wars blasters, this one does not make any noises when it fires… you are welcome!!
Star Wars Rogue One Nerf Imperial Death Trooper Blaster
- Fires 3 darts in a row

I really like the way these blasters look – NERF definitely got this styling on these right! The overall design is pretty good too.
The blaster holds 3 darts, which are loaded from the front. Each time you prime and pull the trigger, it figures out where there is a dart and fires one.
The priming handle is under the barrel, which makes it very quick and easy to pull back, so you can fire much faster than other blasters in the range….although being a storm trooper’s blaster, you will never hit anything!!
It takes 3 AAA batteries, which powers the internal light, used to make the Glowstrike darts light up and power the sound effects when you pull the trigger.
There are two versions of this that differ by color and the addition of a stock, which I think makes it look even better!
All in all, a really nice blaster that works well for both play and cosplay
Poe Dameron and Cassian Andor Star Wars Nerf Blasters
- Front-load, single-shot blaster

I have grouped these two together as the blasters are very similar, it really depends on which film/character you prefer.
I must admit I prefer the styling of the enigmatic Cassian Andor‘s blaster, and I found the priming handle a little easier to use for my nephew. However, Poe Dameron, “the best freaking pilot in the galaxy!” was the one the kids seemed to want!
Both of these blasters take a single dart at a time and will fire any NERF elite style ammo. However, it features GlowStrike technology, essentially a light inside the blaster, that charges the 3 supplied glow-in-the-dark darts to make them glow when fired. Also, when you fire it is accompanied by laser blast sound effects…which got a firm seal of approval from my nephew!
To do this it requires a single AA battery so make sure you have a supply of them as the one my Cassian Andor blaster came with did not have an overly long life.
Both of these blasters weigh under 12oz, so they are small and light enough for even small kids. Both are easy to load and prime, although the lever on the Poe blaster is not quite as easy to grip. But it only takes about 2-3lbs of pressure to do, so most kids will be absolutely fine with this.
Either of these are an ideal blaster for any kid into Rogue One or Star Wars episodes VII.
Sergeant Jyn Erso NERF Blaster

Rogue One does seem to have got more than its fair share of good blasters! This one is modeled on Jyn Erso’s and it is semi-automatic and clip-fed…oh yes, a Star Wars Stryfe (one of my favorite NERF blasters!)
Unlike most of the other blasters in the Star Wars ranges, you do not need to prime this one as it has motorized flywheels that spin up and ping the darts out. This means you can load up a magazine of darts, spin it up and each pull of the trigger will see a dart fly across the room. This lets you lay down fire at a rate your spring-powered foes can only dream of!
It also features sound effects, which means that it does need 4 AA batteries, and they don’t last too long either! One other drawback of this is that it is quite a bit heavier than the Imperial Death Trooper Blasters above and so may be less suitable for younger kids.
On the plus side, it is very well priced currently and…it is semi-auto!!
Qi’Ra Star Wars Nerf Blaster

- Fire darts up to 75 feet (22 meters)
- Includes 4 GlowStrike darts
Qi’Ra is Han Solo’s love interest in the Solo film and this recreation of her blaster has a couple of nice features over the boy’s blasters above…it holds 2 darts!
You can push the darts into the two barrels and it will detect this and let you fire one dart with each pull of the priming handle.
It also features some very evocative sound effects and the Glowstrike technology to get the darts to glow in the dark (needing an AA battery)
While the priming handle is a slightly annoying shape, for a blaster that features a few more bits n bobs than some, it should be popular and/or more expensive. However, generally, I have found it on sale cheaper!
I can only assume this is because I don’t actually remember Qi’Ra doing too much shooting in the film, hence the comparative lack of popularity, but if you do not care about that, this is a great buy for Star Wars fans and comfortably the best of the blasters released for the Solo film
Star Wars Nerf First Order Stormtrooper Deluxe Blaster

Like the Jyn Urso blaster, this is also a battery-powered, semi-auto blaster with sound effects and GlowStrike and comes with a 12 round magazine, making it the most impressive of the blasters in the Star Wars range.
So why have I put it this far down? The first reason is that it is a lot more expensive than Jyn Urso’s blaster. The second is that I really do not like the way it looks.
It all works really well, but it needs 4 AA batteries (which do not last long) which makes it much heavier too and this bulk makes it far less appropriate for the younger audience it is aimed at. For older kids that want a semi-auto blaster, they will probably want one of the full power N-Strike Elite range over this
Also, unlike the Han Solo blaster, it does not really look enough like the movie blaster that you can use it for cosplay (although the older episode VII one is much better for this but getting harder to find)
Don’t get me wrong, it is a really good blaster, but I feel it misses the point a bit…
Captain Phasma Star Wars NERF Blaster

I am not quite sure what to make of the Captain Phasma blaster – I quite like it…but then again there are several annoying things about it!
It features GlowStrike darts and sound effects as the others do, but what sets this apart is that it has a 5 dart rotating drum like a revolver. This is pretty cool and should allow you to fire pretty quickly.
However, for some reason, the designers decided to put the priming arm at the back of the blaster. This means that if you are holding and firing in a normal manner, you have to remove your front hand, prime it and then grab the grip again.
A much more sensible design should be one like the Death Trooper blaster, which has the priming handle as the grip
It needs 3 AAA batteries to power the GlowStrike lamps and sound effects, so overall it is quite a fun blaster, but also a frustrating one!
Han Solo Nerf Blaster

Han Solo’s blaster has been re-created not once, but twice by Hasbro. Once for Star Wars Episode VII and again for his origin pic, “Solo”. The only real difference between them is the color (and the price!)
The blaster itself looks really good. It also comes with an internal magazine, so you can load up multiple darts by sliding the site back. This sliding action also primes it to fire, which is not too difficult.
It takes a single AA battery, which provides the sound effects (although I still made my own noises…) and also powers a UV light inside the clip. This recharges the GlowStrike darts so they will glow in the dark
For such an iconic blaster, I really wanted to put this one higher up, but I have one of the episode VII ones and the quality is not up to much and my one jammed a lot, especially once the darts had become worn. I bought mine for a costume thing, so I was less worried, but if you want to play with it, there are better…unfortunately
Star Wars Nerf Chewbacca Blaster

Released for the Solo film tie-in, this is a slightly disappointing blaster.
It has a similar feel to the Imperial Death Trooper Blaster but loads two darts rather than three. But the big difference is that when you pull the trigger, both darts fire.
I can understand more powerful blasters doing this in a shotgun stylee, but with the reduced power of these blasters, it ends up a bit of a damp squib.
Add to this the underwhelming styling and you get one of my least favorite blasters in the range. Admittedly you get the GlowStrike darts and sound effects, but I would suggest that you go buy Chewie’s iconic Bowcaster or the Imperial Death Trooper blaster instead if you want to lay down some fire
Rey’s Jakku Blaster and First Order Stormtrooper Blaster

These blasters are now quite hard to find and hence the prices have gone up. This means that, for what you get, they are very expensive and hence the reason for putting them together this far down the list.
They are both simple, single-shot blasters with fairly easy to use priming handles. So unless you specifically want one of these, you can get much more for your money elsewhere
Summary
For those of you interested in using these for cosplay, please note that generally, they are larger than you would expect, so may not fit into your holster.
Now you can take your Han Solo or Jyn Urso recreations to another level – whenever you pick it up you are immediately transported into that Galaxy Far Far Away!
